Media, Transparency and Accountability program for Latin America: Call for Proposals

August 5, 2014

The deadline of the First Call for Proposals has been extended until Sunday 7th of September, midnight.

The Media, Transparency and Accountability Program, aimed at stimulating organizations and journalists to use data in favor of generating quality information, is pleased to announce its First Call for Proposals.

The Call for Proposals is open from August 1 to 31, 2014, ending at 00:00 CST. Civil society organizations, social change groups, media, research institutes, associations and private enterprises are encouraged to apply. The Media, Transparency and Accountability Program will fund laboratories for experimentation and prototyping, especially those created with a multidisciplinary approach (e.g. journalists, developers and designers).

The grants will be awarded to initiatives focusing on the following topics:

  • Transparency
  • Accountability
  • Democratic processes (e.g. monitoring)
  • Citizen participation
  • Journalism (citizen journalism, journalistic innovation, data journalism)
  • Use of open data

In addition to the funding of these initiatives, the program will provide technical assistance and mentoring to the projects by a specialized team of professionals from Latin America.

The program believes that laboratories for experimentation and prototyping are an efficient way of citizen involvement in accountability processes. It seeks to fund experimentation and innovative ideas to increase the impact of journalism, transparency and accountability.

The Media, Transparency and Accountability Program, supported by the Swedish Cooperation Development Agency (SIDA), is an extension of Hivos’ current Expression and Engagement program that supports experimentation laboratories, exchange networks and specialized training.
