Future journalists cover Press Freedom Day International Conference

May 2, 2013

The Central America Hivos regional office is taking 10 future journalists from the region to attend the World Press Freedom Day conference in San José from 2 to 4 May. The journalism students will join the Youth Newsroom, a youth-led team from different countries working together to produce quality coverage of the conference proceedings.

The budding journalists come from five different countries: Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama.

The multi-national, multi-media Youth Newsroom will generate extensive coverage of the conference using digital media platforms to reach a global audience. They will also  relay the conference back to the delegates and participants, in particular through a daily newspaper, so that all participants know who is attending and what is happening in the parallel sessions they are not able to attend.

This event also presents a unique opportunity to empower young and upcoming journalists as major stakeholders in press freedom (on all platforms) by upgrading their skills and expanding their cross-national networks in a real-time newsroom setting.
