April 20, 2019

Hivos and Greenpeace are deeply saddened by the death of the environmental monitor Cristian Javá (22) from the indigenous community of La Petrolera, who died after an attack by illegal invaders that entered the indigenous territory.

Javá was part of the PUINAMUDT, one of the local partners that receives support from the All Eyes on the Amazon Program, run by a coalition of 11 organizations and led by Hivos in Peru. Cristian Javá leaves behind a wife and six-month-old child. We have reached out to the community and are working on actions to further investigate the situation.
