Who are we?
The Actors for Change "Enhancing Freedom of Expression in Central America” programme is funded by SIDA and implemented by Hivos throughout Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Our main Actors for Change are independent media, journalists, artists, cultural activists, and human rights defenders.
What do we do?
Hivos seeks to protect and expand the space for free expression in these countries by amplifying the voices of those who dare to speak out, protecting them when necessary and developing capacity to function safely and efficently.
How will we achieve our goal?
Actors for Change will work out a collective strategy which includes: enhanced free expression, capacity building, and safety and protection. Our Program centers its activities on these pillars and includes a Safety Fund that will provide support and physical protection to our Actors for Change if and when needed, as a well as a Projects Fund to disburse grants to often marginalized Actors of Change who have edgy, innovative ideas.
What will we do?
“Actors for Change” will base its efforts in results-oriented activities that combine:
- improving the quality, reach and impact of our implementing partners' media productions, cultural activities and Human Rights Development efforts
- supporting the activities of new and innovative actors for change through a sub-granting mechanism
- ensuring that Human Rights Developers learn how to better market themselves and spark enthusiasm and public support for their work by effectively using independent and alternative media
- improving the security and access to justice for Actors for change when and where necessary
Who will we work with?
